Week 1 Recap
Welcome back, everyone! Another season, same ol' Dean...
Markinson
Dean celebrates his return to the Champions League with a Heineken, topping Jeremy by 12. Jeremy is the unlucky loser in his return, scoring the second-highest point total of the week. Dean continues his career-long trend of facing the toughest opponent possible. Dude likes a challenge.
I prefer the easy route. I am the week's lucky winner, beating Russell by 26 despite scoring just 87 points. Tough week for Russell in his Markinson debut.
Drew starts his title defense with a solid 25-point victory over Nalu, another Markinson rookie.
And Andrew completes the newbie curse, dropping his debut by 13 to Hubert. It is Hubert's fourth straight season in Markinson, but his first win in the season opener! Three years ago he finished 4th, two years ago he was 3rd, and last year he was runner-up, so naturally he's looking to complete the progression and win it all this year. But he's up against an unbroken history of Markinson newbies taking the big prize, so despite all three of them losing their openers, watch out for Andrew, Nalu, and Russell.
Montoya
For the fourth time in five years, Hubert and I open the season against each other, and this time I take the win by 46, snagging the Heineken in the process. We are now 2-2 in those openers.
Gina is the week's unlucky loser, falling to Lisa by 11 despite a solid 110 points.
On the flip-side, Dan wins with what I am pretty sure is an all-time record-low winning total of 64.18 points, topping Scott's slightly more dreadful 62.34.
Jeremy takes out defending champ Andrew by 20.
Dufresne
Dean is double-fisting the Heinekens after starting his title defense against unlucky loser Steve, who gets 42 points from Foster on his way to 114 and loses by 6. As I said, dude likes a challenge.
Russell continues his strong league performance with a 32-point beatdown of Drew.
Markinson stalwarts Amer and Jason are both looking to get back after missing out on this year's Champions League. Amer tops Nalu by 18, and Jason squeaks by Eddy by 3.
Miscellaneous
This update may be premature, but since I've never been able to say it before, I won't pass up on this opportunity to point out that I have taken the early lead for the Starling Cup, with Lisa and Dean just over 20 points back. I was powered by nearly 70 points from Chris Johnson and the black Arian.
This week Hubert played in his record 111th and 112th career games, meaning that he is now the only manager to have qualified for all four seasons of Markinson.
Dean's two Heinekens moved him 1 past Scott for first all time with 25. And something tells me he is going to be adding substantially to that total this season.
