Week 1 Recap
Welcome back! Or in Vineet's case, welcome! Vineet is taking over the seat that Eddy kept lukewarm since the league's inception in 2006. No more free wins in Dufresne. In fact, Vineet now has the second-highest PPG average in league history, starting off his career with a win. Inconceivable!
Markinson
The past winners were all Markinson newbies, but this season a vet will win for the first time.
Jason grabbed the first Heineken of the season and the league lead with a 148-80 win over former champ Drew. He would have been at the top of the standings even without Welker's 16-point reception.
Hubert is in his familiar spot in 2nd place after taking out Jeremy 130-102, thanks to 65 points from his 3 RBs. That was enough to overcome Brady's 43 points. Way to start Arian Foster, Jer.
I took out Andrew 121-93 despite his 63 points from 4 WRs. I got only 2 carries from SJax before he gimped out, but that's all he needed to post a solid 11.60. The Vick experiment got off to a good start with 27 points, but seeing what all the other QBs did this week, it remains to be seen how much value I got from that pick.
In the battle of 2-time Dufresne champs, Dean eeked one out against Amer, 117-115. If Amer had forgotten to start a defense, he would have won, but instead he went with Pittsburgh and its -3. Dean, on the other hand, got 18 from the Jets when Romo imploded down the stretch. Dean's a huge Steeler fan, but they picked a good time to get lit up.
Montoya
Dan has had enough of watching Markinson from the sidelines. He grabs the league lead and just his third career Heineken with a whopping 185 points! Hubert got the butt end of that performance, falling 185-117. How does one score 185 points? QB: 43. WRs: 11/14/28. RBs: 27/16/8. TE: 12. K: 10. D: 17. Yikes.
Jer scored an easy 141-77 win over Scott, with consistent production up and down the lineup. His D and K outscored Scott's by 34 points.
I got my second win over Andrew this week with a 130-91 win. Andrew is again loaded at WR, getting 46 points from his three starters, but the rest of his team mostly let him down. My QB, WR2, RB2, and D scored enough to win, which is good, since everyone else was mediocre.
In the women's division, Gina squeaked by Lisa 107-103. Gina needed 10 points from Seabass to win and got half of that on his record-tying 63-yarder. I don't know why they don't make that worth 6 points. Lisa left 5 TDs on her bench, so don't sleep on her team.
Dufresne
Dean scored his record-extending 33rd career Heineken (23rd in Dufresne) in a 154-83 win over Drew. Just imagine if his first-rounder ever manages to score more than 5 points. Dean was once again up against Pittsburgh D, so at least there was a double silver lining to that beating.
Not surprisingly, Amer is just behind in 2nd place after his 134-110 victory over Russell. He needed a solid performance from Brady and got 500 yards and 4 TDs. Such an overachiever. At least that made Russell's decision to start a gimp K less painful. Amer's win extended his record winning streak in Dufresne to 8!
Steve got off to a strong start with a 130-101 win over Nalu. It's a good week for Steve when he goes up against Rodgers, who leads his Pack to a big win, but he still cruises to fantasy victory.
Vineet got his inaugural win with a solid 116-82 victory over Jason, despite getting nearly zero production from 3 roster spots. But Jason started Arian and didn't get a single explosive performance in a week full of them. Jason leads Markinson and brings up the rear in Dufresne.
Starling
Dan has already opened up a 30-point lead on Dean, 185-154, with Jeremy, Amer, Steve, and I also starting off strong.
There have been some big injuries in week 1, so stay on your game! Good luck!
