2012 Regular Season Recap

We've wrapped up another regular season, and with the weekly updates mysteriously disappearing, there's a lot to catch up on!

Markinson Cup

It came down to the final week, and I needed either a win over Dean or a Vineet loss to Hubert to clinch my second champions league title.  In the end I got both to win the league by two games over Hubert.  Hubert led the league in scoring but was the runner-up for the fourth straight season!  He's still looking for that elusive first Markinson Cup, while I'm the first manager to win a second.

I was 3-4 at the halfway point but finished the season on a 7-game win streak.  If either Hubert or Vineet had beaten me during that stretch, they would have won the title on the points tie breaker.  I finished third in scoring behind those two but won the most Heinekens with four.

Montoya

The Montoya league championship also came down to the last week, with Hubert controlling his own destiny.  If he beat Lisa he would repeat as league champion, the first manager to do so.  A loss would open the door to Jeremy, who would need to beat Gina for his second league title.  Hubert faltered and Jeremy prevailed, meaning that just as in Markinson, Hubert would have to settle for second place despite leading the league in scoring.  Also as in Markinson, it was his fourth runner-up finish!

Jeremy pointed out to me that he won despite finishing just 6th in points and winning in weeks 1, 2, 4 and 13 by a combined 6.14 points!  He also had the fewest points against for the season.  He hadn't won a Heineken until this very last week of the season, and naturally he won it by only 0.24 points.  Hubert, by comparison, won six Heinekens.  But you are what your record says you are, and the record says Jeremy is the first to win two Montoya league championships.

Jeremy also earns his fourth trip to Markinson, and Hubert keeps his perfect record intact with his remarkable seventh bid.  My Markinson title earns me my sixth bid, leaving one spot for the playoff winner.  Lisa is in the limbo spot after finishing third in the standings, hoping for her fourth bid.  Scott had his first winning season since 2008, but he'll need to win playoffs to get back into Markinson for the fourth time, thanks to the spot I stole.

Dufresne

Vineet won his first league title in just his second season, leaving no doubt by leading the league in scoring and topping Dean by one game.  Vineet is once again headed to Markinson and has established himself as a perennial threat in Dufresne.  Inconceivable?

He's still got a ways to go to match the consistency of Dean and Jason, who finished in their customary top-three positions and earned their sixth Markinson bids in seven tries.

Nalu is in limbo heading into playoffs, hoping to earn his third Markinson bid with either his third playoff title or a win by any of the top three.  Watch out for Amer, who had the third-highest point total but finished only fifth.  And Steve is the only manager still looking for his first Markinson bid.

Starling

Although Hubert failed to win a league title despite leading two leagues in scoring, he did post the highest point total in either premier league, earning him his first Starling Cup with 1750 points.  Vineet was second with 1708, followed not-so-closely by Jason, myself, Amer and Dan.

Records

Hubert's combined point total between premier league and champions league was just enough to topple one of the oldest records on the books.  His 3,481 combined points bettered Jason's record from 2007 by just 2 points!

Hubert also broke the Markinson single game points record with a whopping 190.24 in week 12.

That's all for now, folks.  Playoffs start this week, and everyone still has a shot to win a trophy and get into champions league, so stay sharp!  Good luck!
