Week 3 Recap

Historic week in Dufresne. We haven't seen numbers like this since Fantasia '06. But first...

Markinson

In the battle for 1st place, Dean squeaks out the win against Andrew by less than 1 point, naturally winning the Heineken in the process. I missed MNF, so Hubert sent me a text explaining what happened:

Ayeh down 1 with rodgers and gb d. Gb driving for win, but james jones fumbles. Gb d picks twice on winning drive but negated by penalties. Another pick is caught and dropped. And stupid gb d doesn't let 'em in from the 3 with 1:40 and 1 timeout left. So they kick the short fg to win with 0:09 left. Any 5 of those diff and ayeh wins.

Andrew still leads the league in total points but is only 5th in the standings.

Hubert drops a game back after falling by 19 to Russell.

I eek one out against Drew by 3 to move up to 3rd.

Nalu is still looking for his first ever Markinson win after losing to Jeremy by 11. Jeremy is 3rd in total points and finally has a win to show for it, naturally with his worst outing of the season.

Montoya

I pick up my second Heineken and stay at the top of the standings with a 20-point win over Andrew. The reigning champ is still looking for his first win this season.

Jeremy falls to 2nd after losing by 11 to Gina.

Montoya legend Hubert finally picks up his first win of the season after taking out Dan by 48.

Lisa bounces back from a tough week with a solid 30-point win over Scott.

Dufresne

Onto the good stuff. Jason scores over 150 points and wins by 80 over Steve, yet he neither wins the Heineken nor scores the biggest win of the week.

Both of those honors go to Dean, and he does them both in record-smashing style. His 195.96 points top Jason's Dufresne record 179.3 points back in 2007, and his 103.48-point win over Drew breaks emeritus Matt's 90.88-point win over Eddy, also in 2007.

Nalu moves up to 3rd after beating Russell by 17 for his second win in a row.

Amer also gets his second win after topping Eddy by 17.

Miscellaneous

Scott is still the only one to ever crack the 200-point barrier, with 207.78 points back in our inaugural season of '06. Scott also still has the biggest win ever, 130.06 points over Gina in that same game.

Dean's record-breaking total moves him to the front of the Starling race, with me, Jeremy, and Jason following behind.

It's early, but with Dean's 6 wins, 805 points, and 4 Heinekens in 3 weeks, I will be keeping my eye on those single-season records.

Week 2 Recap

Markinson

Three nail-biters and a blowout.

Andrew gets his first Markinson win, and he does it with a bang, snagging the Heineken in a 70-point ass-whoopin' of Drew. He sits in 3rd but has the highest point total.

Dean holds onto 1st with a 9-point win over Nalu, who is still looking for his first Markinson victory. It is Dean's record-extending 10th straight win in Markinson, yet he's still somehow looking for his first Champions League title.

Hubert is also 2-0 after beating me by 3, on the second-to-last pass of MNF. More on that play in a minute

Jeremy is the unlucky loser for the second straight week, this time falling to Russell by 3. It is Russell's first Markinson win.

Montoya

Jeremy throws back his 12th career Heineken with a 70-point thrashing of Lisa. The win vaults him into a 1st place tie with me and atop the race for Starling, which he won back in '07.

I somehow beat Dan by 0.18 points, on the strength of that last-minute throw by Brees that cost me the win in Markinson. I happily took that trade. Dan goes from the luckiest win ever (64 to 62) to one of the most brutal and unlucky (124.78 - 124.96). I haven't confirmed, but I'm pretty sure it's the closest game ever.

Gina moves into 3rd with an 18-point win over Hubert. It is Hubert's worst start in the premier league, and I doubt he's ever been as low as 7th place in Montoya.

First to worst? Scott rebounds nicely from his sad showing last week to score a solid 24-point win over defending champion Andrew, who is now at the bottom of the standings.

Dufresne

No close games this week.

Jason is rebounding from a disappointing season, sitting in 2nd place after scoring his 14th career Heineken in a 23-point win over Russell.

Dean is getting comfortable in 1st after a solid 39-point win over Amer.

Steve is back in business after beating Eddy by 47, moving him into 3rd place and just a couple points back of Dean.

Drew was on the wrong end of another blowout, losing to Nalu by 49, and he's sitting in last.

Week 1 Recap

Welcome back, everyone! Another season, same ol' Dean...

Markinson

Dean celebrates his return to the Champions League with a Heineken, topping Jeremy by 12. Jeremy is the unlucky loser in his return, scoring the second-highest point total of the week. Dean continues his career-long trend of facing the toughest opponent possible. Dude likes a challenge.

I prefer the easy route. I am the week's lucky winner, beating Russell by 26 despite scoring just 87 points. Tough week for Russell in his Markinson debut.

Drew starts his title defense with a solid 25-point victory over Nalu, another Markinson rookie.

And Andrew completes the newbie curse, dropping his debut by 13 to Hubert. It is Hubert's fourth straight season in Markinson, but his first win in the season opener! Three years ago he finished 4th, two years ago he was 3rd, and last year he was runner-up, so naturally he's looking to complete the progression and win it all this year. But he's up against an unbroken history of Markinson newbies taking the big prize, so despite all three of them losing their openers, watch out for Andrew, Nalu, and Russell.

Montoya

For the fourth time in five years, Hubert and I open the season against each other, and this time I take the win by 46, snagging the Heineken in the process. We are now 2-2 in those openers.

Gina is the week's unlucky loser, falling to Lisa by 11 despite a solid 110 points.

On the flip-side, Dan wins with what I am pretty sure is an all-time record-low winning total of 64.18 points, topping Scott's slightly more dreadful 62.34.

Jeremy takes out defending champ Andrew by 20.

Dufresne

Dean is double-fisting the Heinekens after starting his title defense against unlucky loser Steve, who gets 42 points from Foster on his way to 114 and loses by 6. As I said, dude likes a challenge.

Russell continues his strong league performance with a 32-point beatdown of Drew.

Markinson stalwarts Amer and Jason are both looking to get back after missing out on this year's Champions League. Amer tops Nalu by 18, and Jason squeaks by Eddy by 3.

Miscellaneous

This update may be premature, but since I've never been able to say it before, I won't pass up on this opportunity to point out that I have taken the early lead for the Starling Cup, with Lisa and Dean just over 20 points back. I was powered by nearly 70 points from Chris Johnson and the black Arian.

This week Hubert played in his record 111th and 112th career games, meaning that he is now the only manager to have qualified for all four seasons of Markinson.

Dean's two Heinekens moved him 1 past Scott for first all time with 25. And something tells me he is going to be adding substantially to that total this season.
